Description
Semax is a synthetic peptide analog derived from the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) fragment 4–7, specifically designed to enhance stability and extend biological activity. Unlike natural ACTH, which primarily influences cortisol production, Semax does not demonstrate typical endocrine effects but instead exhibits distinct neurotropic and neuromodulatory actions within the central nervous system.
The peptide’s molecular design features the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro (MEHFPGP), which includes a Pro-Gly-Pro (PGP) modification at the C-terminus. This structural enhancement is believed to increase the peptide’s lipophilicity and resistance to enzymatic degradation, improving its blood–brain barrier permeability and overall biological half-life.
